Power is balanced among the four great nations of the world: Water, Air, Earth and Fire. The leaders of each nation possess the ability to master their native element. They call themselves Waterbenders, Earthbenders, Airbenders and Firebenders.

The most powerful person in the world is the Avatar. He alone masters all four elements and maintains world order. Many years ago, the four nations lived in harmon, until the Fire nation attacked the rest of the world and seized power. Only the avatar can restore world peace, but the new Avatar is just a 12-year old boy called Aang, who has only mastered the skill of his nation, airbending.

This animated action series centres on Aang, who has been hidden in the frozen world of the South Pole enclosed within an iceberg for the last 100 years. He is found by 14-year old waterbender Kya and her brother, Sokka, born without powers. The two siblings are determined to help Aang learn the other three bending powers and restore world harmony. Yet this is the last thing on Aang's mind - he just wants to enjoy being a kid. Can he learn to settle down and become master of the elements? Let the adventure begin!
